Russian air defense repelled over the night of August 7 and 8 a Ukrainian drone attack that targeted the regions of Belgorod, Kursk and Oryol in Russia’s southwest.

In a morning statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that 14 drones were intercepted over Belgordo and two others over Kursk. Later in the morning, the ministry said that two additional drones were shot down over Kursk and Oryol.

The ministry and Russian media didn’t report casualties or material losses in any of the targeted regions as a result of the failed Ukrainian attack.

However, a separate Ukrainian attack with FPV drones that targeted Belgorod early in the morning resulted in some losses. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that an infrastructure facility in the region was struck.

“An FPV drone attacked an infrastructure facility in the village of Borisovka in the Borisovsky District, damaging the building’s windows and canopy,” the governor wrote on Telegram.

Another drone exploded near a private house in the village of Cheremoshnoye in the Belgorodsky district, shattering its windows and damaging its facade and a gas pipeline. “Emergency teams are working at the sites of the attacks,” the governor added.

The Kiev regime intensified attacks on Russia with the start of the year, damaging infrastructure and killing and wounding a number of civilians. In response, the Russian military resumed group strikes on military infrastructure and related energy facilities in Ukraine last March.

It’s worth noting that Kiev escalated further earlier this week by launching a surprise attack in Kursk. Russia’s response to the attack will likely be fierce.
