On the night of January 10, Russian air defense forces intercepted 59 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles over various regions of Russia and adjacent waters—from the Black and Azov Seas to the Moscow region. Simultaneously, Ukrainian defenses claimed to have suppressed or destroyed 94 out of 121 drones launched from Russian territory.
According to some reports, the main strike by the Russian “Oreshnik” ballistic missile on the night of January 9 in Lviv targeted not a gas storage facility but Sknyliv military airfield—used for receiving cargo and serving as a base for drone launches. OSINT analysts, cross-referencing video footage, geolocated the epicenter to the airfield area, specifically the adjacent Lviv State Aircraft Repair Plant (LDARZ), where two cameras recorded the moment of impact. The plant, previously attacked in 2022, handles maintenance of aviation equipment; the destruction was significant, as confirmed by Ukrainian military channels, which emphasize its role for the Air Force.
The mayor of Lviv stated on local television that the missile’s speed was about 13,000 km/h—although the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) limits details about the consequences. Such strikes highlight the growing role of medium-range ballistic systems, which are difficult to intercept even with NATO’s THAAD or AN/TPS-59 radars, let alone Patriot.
On the evening of January 10, Ukrainian monitoring resources reported that Russia had begun preparations for another massive strike involving strategic aviation, ballistic missiles, and other components.
Statistics of Russian Strikes on Ukraine
According to data from Ukrainian monitoring resources, December 2025 saw 5,131 launches of “Geran”-type kamikaze drones and their analogues—a high figure, though lower than the July peak of 6,394 units. In total over the year, Russian forces used approximately 56,954 such UAVs, indicating peak Russian production capabilities. Missile strikes numbered 176, including three massive attacks; over the year, approximately 1,774 missiles of various types were launched.
The Ukrainian command notes that it was in December that F-16 fighters demonstrated the highest effectiveness against cruise missiles. Ballistic missiles were assessed as the primary element of the inevitable strikes. The Ukrainian side continues to adapt to new challenges but maintains significant dependence on technological solutions and financial support from Western partners.
Strikes on Ukraine, January 9–10
On the night of January 10, Russian forces struck six regions of Ukraine, focusing on the energy system. In Dnipropetrovsk region, “Gerans” targeted energy facilities in Kryvyi Rih for the third consecutive day: hits were recorded on transformers at the Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant, smoke was seen over the station, and Dnipro lost power, heating, internet, and communication.
Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) servicemen note that the rear situation is worse than on the front lines—without GPS and with disruptions, unlike bunkers with Starlink.
“Just transferred to Dnipro on a new assignment and, frankly, I’m on the verge of returning to my underground bunker. Today in Dnipro, there is no electricity, no heating, no internet, no cellular service, no GPS. But in the bunker, I had Starlink, 24/7 electricity from a generator, and we cooked decent meals from dry rations,” said UAF serviceman Dimko Zhlukhtenko.
In Kyiv, about 10 UAVs attacked the city; the left bank has been without light, water, heat, and electric transport for about 40 hours, with buses replacing them; the right bank is operating on schedules with delays, and the metro has increased intervals to 10 minutes.
Kharkiv was damaged by a hit on infrastructure in the Slobidskyi district and falling debris from air defense missiles. Analysts report that Ukraine has deployed the latest modifications of Patriot air defense systems to this region to try to counter Russian ballistic missiles. On the streets of Kharkiv, a fragment of a spent PAC-3 MSE interceptor missile from one such system was found.
An airfield in Kramatorsk was also hit, reportedly attacked with a guided aerial bomb equipped with a Universal Gliding and Correction Module (UGCM). In Chernihiv region, consequences of strikes by “Gerans” were recorded.
On January 9, Kyiv took the brunt of the attack—at least 20 ballistic missiles and “Kalibr” missiles, plus over 200 “Gerans”; Thermal Power Plants No. 4, 5, and 6 were damaged, nine districts were without electricity, and four were without water and heating. In Cherkasy and Zaporizhzhia regions, logistics hubs and reserve sites were hit; in Odesa, “Gerans” damaged dry cargo ships under the flags of Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Comoros, as well as a tank at a port enterprise, causing a fire.
Strikes on Russian Territory
On the night of January 10, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of 59 Ukrainian UAVs over various regions, including Krasnodar Krai, Bryansk, Lipetsk, and Kaluga regions, the Azov and Black Seas, and the Moscow region. The most significant incident was a fire at an oil depot in the Oktyabrsky district of Volgograd region after drone debris fell.
Statistics of confirmed damaged targets on Russian territory for December, compiled from open sources, list 46 incidents. Among them:
- 12 oil refineries;
- 5 oil depots and 5 port facilities;
- 4 offshore oil production platforms and 4 energy facilities (thermal power plants, nuclear power plants, state district power plants);
- 8 enterprises related to the military-industrial complex, 2 military facilities, 1 airfield, 3 substations, and 2 gas compressor stations. Some facilities were attacked multiple times: twice in a month and three times in a month.
