The US Camp Victory in Iraq came under rocket fire late on May 2. Two rockets hit the site near Baghdad airport. The third shell was reportedly intercepted by the C-RAM anti-aircraft system. It is the second such attack in 10 days.

Any casualties were reported by the US forces side. CENTCOM stated that the attack had come from an area near the Iraqi capital.

No reports of who was responsible for the attack.

Previously, late on April 22, three rockets were launched at the US military’s Victoria Base in Baghdad International Airport in the Iraqi capital.

Meanwhile, numerous IED attacks target convoys moving logistic supplies and equipment for the US-led coalition all over Iraq. The latest one took place on May 2.

Pro-Iranian groups in Iraq are the main suspects, though they have vowed to increase attacks to force “occupying” US troops to leave the region, following the assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units, and Qassim Soleimani, Commander of Iran’s Quds Force.

Moreover, the new attack on the Victoria Camp could be a response to the alleged sabotage attack on a large chemical plant located near the city of Qom in central Iran. On May 2, it was caught on fire, amid the Iranian claims on some progress in negotiations on Iranian Nuclear Deal.

Day by day these attacks are increasing in both intensity and precision and look more and more like a coordinated effort by various liberation groups to seriously push out the Americans from Iraq once and for all. Interesting that such serious efforts where never present in Iraq before General Soleimani was murdered in 2020 by uncle Shmuel.
