An Israeli was killed on March 22 when a salvo of rockets fired from southern Lebanon by Hezbollah struck the settlement of Misgav Am in northern Israel.
Initially, Hebrew media reported that the attack was carried out with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). However, Hezbollah later said in a statement claiming responsibility that its fighters targeted a “gathering of Israeli enemy army soldiers in the settlement of Misgav Am with a rocket barrage” in the morning.
The Israeli Defense Forces said that the rocket attack destroyed two vehicles, with rescue services reporting the death of a civilian man.
Hezbollah resumed military operations right after the start of the American-Israeli war on Iran, ending a ceasefire brokered by the United States more than 15 months earlier and promoting the IDF to launch “targeted” ground operations in southern Lebanon.
In recent days, the group stepped up mortar, rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel, causing casualties and damage. A day earlier, two Israeli soldiers were wounded by mortar fire, according to the IDF.
The latest attack brought the number of Israelis killed by Hezbollah since the start of the ongoing confrontation to three.
Two soldiers were killed on March 8 when an ATGM fired by Hezbollah fighters struck an IDF D9 armored bulldozer they were standing next to, close to the northern Israeli settlement of Manara.
Responding to the deadly rocket attack, the IDF warned that it will bomb another bridge on the Litani River, “due to Hezbollah’s activities and the transfer of terror operatives to southern Lebanon under the cover of the civilian population.”
To prevent Hezbollah from moving operatives and weapons into southern Lebanon, the military said that it will strike the Qasmiya Bridge, located on the coastal highway in southern Lebanon.
Defense Minister Israel Katz, from his side, said that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the IDF to “immediately destroy all the bridges over the Litani River that are used for terror activity, to prevent the passage of Hezbollah terrorists and weapons southward.”
Litani lies 20 to 30 kilometers away from the Blue Line, and Israel has repeatedly implied that it wants to occupy all territories up to the river since Hezbollah resumed military operations.
Katz also said he instructed the army to “accelerate the destruction of Lebanese homes in the line of contact villages, to thwart threats to Israeli communities, in accordance with the model of Beit Hanoun and Rafah,” referring to Israel’s leveling of these areas in the Gaza Strip amid the ground offensive against the Hamas Movement.
The confrontation between the IDF and Hezbollah, which has already claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people in Lebanon, appears to be entering a new phase.
While Israel is using the deadly rocket attack on Misgav Am as a pretext to escalate, it was already preparing to expand ground operations. Just a day earlier, the IDF announced that its 162nd Division, an elite armored formation, completed preparations ahead of deployment in southern Lebanon.

the ceasefire never existed, during those 15 months israelis comitted 15000 violations, 1500 bombings and 400 murders in lebanon. hezbollah has the right to defend itself
