Race for Al Bab: Kurfish YPG Advancing from Afrin

On August 30, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) launched a fresh advance on the strategic ISIS-controlled city of Al-Bab in the Syrian province of Aleppo. The YPG launched its advance from its Afrin Canton in northwestern Syria and already seized the villages of Harbu, Tall Qarah и al-Hawsh amd now the Kurdish forces are in 25 km from Al-Bab.

Al-Bab is a strategic logistic hub in northern Syria that is located between the areas controlled by the Kurdish YPG militias in northeastern and northwestern Syria. The Kurdish YPG and the predominantly Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) seek to seize the city in order to link up the Kurdish-controlled areas in northern Syria.

Meanwhile, militant groups that participate in the Trukish-led operations in Syria have also claimed the goal to seize this strategic city. There are no doubts that these developments will lead to further escalations between the Turkish-led forces and the SDF/YPG in the Arab country.

To me it look like a kind of suicide. If any of them reach Al bab it heavely defended. Saw anoher rapport. If true the madnes is in full scale. YPG has to go through ISIS lines and are airsrtriked by – Turks or Assad.

What a country. Thats where the really regulars are.

I really hope its a fake.

ISIS will probably flee as they did with Jarabulus, they have little to gain from fighting to the death. They’ll probably pull out and use their troops elsewhere, as northern Aleppo is lost now.

Jens Holm

Yes agree. make sense. That why I dont understand they are being allowed to make their territory smaller and smaller and able to defend shorter defence lines.

The normal procedure for winning is tuff divide and elimination – in german called “kesselschlacht” -if my german is correct.

Look like as I stated on another post that the US backed forces will use the M4 on an East/West route and the Turks will use the 216 east/west with a 5km DMZ. Madea will be the end of the road for the Turks and Al Bab for the moving westward Kurds. The Turks not Assad will strike the Kurds by air, they have been warned and they cannot see the F22’s

Jens Holm

yes, that could probatly be it.

There is a race for isis held territory. It is open season for isis cities. US do not allow turks And assad to touch kurds. Russians protect assad. Turks support fsa. Whoever take isis territory it will have a leverage for peace talks. I think after isis removed, parties will discuss how theycanebd the war…

Map is nonesence. Afrin kurds can strike from south, the shortest way to al bab, I doubt SAA have will or need to prevent em from doing this.

Jens Holm

Im sure Afrin kurds are not strong enough for doing that at all. They might reach Al Bab defence line, whish is well prepared. Even if You ad forces by manbij they are not much witout heayy support by artillery, tanks or Airplanes.

As I read it Al Bab is much bigger cookie than Manbij, although ISIS now could be weaker.

We will see. Many would like to have Al bab – Assads too. Kurds fighting ISIS – and when they are “tired” – Assads take it all – as the Turks trying to do according to Manbij.

Sometimes its frightening just looking at a map and move around scenaries as pieces. I forget its people now and then.
