The situation in the evening September 1, 2016, according to the official version of the Euphrates Shield command

Turkish-led forces have repelled attacks of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group and again went on the offensive to the west of Jarablus. On September 1 morning, The Turkish Air Force hit IS positions near the villages of Zavgar, Kullyah, and Sabuniyah, making breakthrough of the IS defense in these areas. The Т-155 self-propelled artillery weapons fired on IS facilities from the territory of Turkey.

By noon, militants have taken control of the villages of Zavgar, Qunli, Kullyah, Sabunji, Sabuniyah and Tall Aghar, throwing the IS to the west on 4-5 kilometers. At the south there was a threat of a roundup by the IS terrorists, who had smashed through the area near the settlement of Yakubia the day before. For this reason, militants started to retreat to the west along the Sadzhur River. Sources noted a significant role of Turkish military and air power in repelling the IS counterattacks.
