Syria said that it had detained a Hezbollah-linked cell responsible for several attacks on a key military airport near the capital, Damascus, where United States troops could soon be deployed.
This was first announced on January 31 by Interior Minister Anas Khattab, who wrote on X saying that the “criminals who targeted the Mezzeh area and its military airport several times in desperate attempts to shake security and stability are now in the custody of our security forces.”
The next day, the Ministry of Interior provided more details, revealing that the cell’s members were detained by security forces during a series of operations in the Rif Dimashq governorate, carried out in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service.
“These operations followed continuous field surveillance and monitoring of the rocket launch sites in both Daraya and Kfar Souseh. Security efforts led to the identification and close surveillance of one of the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks, ultimately uncovering the rest of the cell. Subsequently, several security raids were conducted, resulting in the arrest of all those involved and the seizure of a number of drones that were prepared for use in terrorist acts,” the ministry said in a statement.
It added in the statement that the cell “had links to foreign entities” and that the source of the rockets and launchers used in the attacks, as well as the seized drones, was none other than Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
The detainees confessed to preparing to carry out new attacks using drones, according to the ministry, which noted that the recent operations “thwarted their terrorist plot.”

Rockets were first fired at the Mezzeh military airport and the adjacent neighborhood with the same name on November 15. Two more similar attacks followed on December 9 and January 3. In all three attacks, 107 mm rockets, similar to the Iranian Haseb Fajr-1, were used.
No such rockets were found with the cell’s members, based on the photos released by the Interior Ministry, and the small fixed-wing drones seized during the operations don’t match any known type used by Hezbollah, or any other regional group linked to Iran.
Hezbollah, from its side, denied the allegations and said in a statement that it had no activity or ties with any group inside Syria.

The airport – located just under four kilometers away from the People’s Palace to the southwest of Damascus – came to first public attention on November 6, when a report by Reuters revealed U.S. plans to establish military presence there. While the report didn’t name Mezzeh, per say, it said that a U.S. C-130 transport aircraft made a test landing there. An MC-130-series special-mission aircraft of the U.S. Air Force was spotted landing at the airport then taking off within minutes earlier on October 2.
On November 21, a report by Sky News Arabia confirmed that the airport the U.S. is planning to take over near Damascus was indeed Mazzeh. The report said that the airprot is meant to support a “security agreement that Washington is working to conclude between Syria and Israel.”
Mazzeh was heavily damaged by a series of intense Israeli strikes following the fall of the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad. Its 2,517 meter-long runway somehow survived, however.
These accusations against Hezbollah came amid reports of advances in talks between Syria and Israel on a security agreement, with claims that United States President Donald Trump even wants a deal signed before March.
Last August, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa told a media delegation that he has chosen to “move past the wounds inflicted by Hezbollah on Syria” and not to pursue further fighting after overthrowing the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad, a key ally of the group.
“Some portray us as terrorists and an existential threat, while others want to use the new Syria to settle scores with Hezbollah. We are neither,” Sharaa explained.
While Sharaa was clear in not seeking a conflict with Hezbollah, the latest accusation appeared to be more of an attempt to build a case for some intervention in Lebanon. Such a move by Syria will surely be welcomed by Israel, and to some extent by the U.S.
Fighting Shiite Hezbollah may not be the main goal of any Syrian intervention in Lebanon, however. Hebrew media report from last year said that Sharaa wants to annex parts of Lebanon, specifically the northern Sunni-majority port city of Tripoli, in exchange for relinquishing part of the occupied Golan Heights to Israel. This could spark a conflict with Lebanon as a whole, not just with Hezbollah.

maksvela je s epstajnom upoznao ruski naftaški magnat koji je i sam bio na platnom spisku kremlja.
navodno su i maksvel i epstajn služili moskvi za “pranje para” na zapadu.
nije slučajno ni što ubrzo nakon maksvelove smrti njegova ćerka gilejn počinje redovno da se pojavljuje uz epstajna, postavši mu glavna saradnica i ljubavnica.
maksvel je izvukao sav novac iz penzionih fondova zaposlenih u medijima koje je držao, a te pare nikada nisu pronađene.

sumnja se da ih je “oprao” upravo epstajn i da je to bila glavna nit koja ga je povezivala sa gilejn maksvel.
kao i njen otac i epstajn je umro pod misterioznim okolnostima i to u pritvoru 2019, gde je navodno izvršio samoubistvo dok ga je čekao novi sudski proces.
maksvelova ćerka je u sad osuđena na 20 godina zatvora zbog navođenja maloletnih osoba na prostituciju i trenutno izdržava kaznu.

epstajn se u novootkrivenim porukama hvalio da kremlju može da obezbedi informacije o američkom predsedniku donaldu trampu i to kroz kontakte sa ruskim ambasadorom u njujorku, ali i šefom diplomatije sergejom lavrovim.
u pitanju su mejlovi koji su razmenjeni uoči samita trampa i putina koji je održan 2018, a na čijem je samom kraju predsednik sad poručio da nije bilo nikakvih dokaza o ruskom mešanju u američke izbore.
