On July 22, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) released footage of one of its recent attack on the Turkish military in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

The attack, which took place on July 7th, targeted a Turkish post on the Zendura hill in the area of Metina, that lays along the border with Turkey.

PKK fighters targeted the post with an anti-tank guided missile. As a result of the attack, three Turkish service members were killed and two others were wounded. These claims have not been verified, yet.

The Turkish military has been battling the PKK in northern Iraq for many years now. Metina remains one of the hottest frontlines.

On July 19th, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced that Turkish-made ATAK helicopters had “neutralized” five fighters of the PKK in the border area.

In April, the Turkish military launched the joint Claw-Lightning and Claw-Thunderbolt operations against PKK cells in the Kurdistan Region. Ankara claims that dozens of PKK fighters have been killed, wounded or captured, so far. Yet, the Kurdish group is still active in the region.
