The People’s Defence Forces (HPG), a military wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), claimed that it had attacked 6 military bases in the southern Turkish provinces of Hakkari and Sirnak on November 9 and November 10.

According to the statement, the HPG attacked the village of Besosın in Hakkari, the Hakkari Mountain Commando Brigade, the Sirnak 23rd Division Command Central Area, the Cizre Tank Brigade, the Silopi Hacılar Military Assembly Area, and the Sehit Mesut Border Outpost in the Silopi district of Sirnak province.

The group also claimed that these attacks had killed 17 Turkish soldiers and wounded 37 others. The group added that 9 Turkish soldiers remain missing after the attack.

It should be noted that on November 10 reports appeared the Turkish military had repelled UAV attacks on its positions in the province of Sirnak.

The Hakkari province is located on the Turkish border with Iraq while the province of Sirnak borders both Syria and Iraq. PKK attacks on Turksih provinces in these areas in fact confirm the Turkish official position that the PKK in northern Iraq and the PKK branch in northern Syria – the YPG – pose a direct threat to the Turkish national security.
