Pakistani military chief General Syed Asim Munir warned on April 30 that any attack by India will be met with a swift response.
The commander made the warning while attending large-scale drills, dubbed “Exercise Hammer Strike,” which is being conducted by the military’s elite Mangla Strike Corps..
The drills were launched to test the “combat readiness, battlefield synergy, and the operational integration of cutting-edge weapon systems under near-battlefield conditions,” according to the military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), which said that the exercise featured a coordinated display of fighter jets, attack helicopters, long-range precision artillery, and next-generation field engineering techniques.
Troops from all arms and services took part in synchronized offensive maneuvers, “demonstrating exceptional agility, tactical cohesion, and battlefield awareness, reflecting an extraordinary level of training and professionalism,” ISPR said in a statement.
“The exercise showcased Pakistan Army’s increasing absorption of niche and emerging technologies to augment its kinetic and non-kinetic operational capabilities,” the press service added.
Addressing the troops, Munir issued a stern warning, stating that any military misadventure by India will be met with a “swift, resolute, and notch-up response”.
“Let there be no ambiguity — Pakistan’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs,” he said. “While we remain committed to regional peace, our determination to safeguard national interests is absolute.”
He further added that Pakistan has always desired peace in the region, but any provocation or aggression will be firmly countered.
It’s worth noting that the drills are being held across key areas near the front with India, including Sialkot, Narowal, Zafarwal, and Shakargarh.
Tensions between Pakistan and India have been on the rise since the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which left 26 civilians dead. Pakistan denied any involvement in the terrorist attack, which was claimed by The Resistance Front. Still, India expelled Pakistani diplomats, closing border crossings, and went as far as halting a vital water-sharing agreement for the first time ever.
The last few days witnessed sporadic clashes along the Line of Control, the de-facto border in the disputed Kashmir region, as well as on the internationally-recognized border between the two countries. No casualties have been reported yet, however.
