On the night of January 24th, Russia and Ukraine exchanged massive strikes in the rear areas. The attacks resulted in heavy damage on both sides.
The Ukrainian military continues intensifying the drone strikes on Russian territory. After a short pause of several days, the Armed Forces of Ukraine resumed massive drone strikes on the Russian rear infrastructure. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, in total 121 Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed and intercepted by Russian air defense at night. The attack was launched in several massive ways and affected almost all Russian Western regions. Drones were destroyed over 12 Russian regions and the capital:
- 37 in the Bryansk region
- 20 in the Ryazan region
- 17 in the Kursk region
- 17 in the Saratov region
- 7 in the Rostov region
- 6 in the Moscow region
- 1 in the city of Moscow
- 6 in the Belgorod region
- 3 in the Voronezh region
- 2 in the Tula region
- 2 in the Oryol region
- 2 in the Lipetsk region
- 1 in the Republic of Crimea.
On the evening of January 23rd, 49 more aircraft-type drones were shot down and intercepted.
In the morning of January 24th, the Russian military also confirmed the destruction of three more Ukrainian UAVs over the territory of the northern Leningrad region. The region was targeted by Ukrainian drones after a very long pause.
According to preliminary reports, the Armed Forces of Ukraine also launched a large number of NATO missiles in the border Kursk region. The Russian Ministry of Defense usually acknowledges Ukrainian attacks with NATO missiles and confirms damage if suffered. The official comments are yet to be released. If the missile strikes are confirmed, Ukraine should prepare for another wave of devastating retaliation strikes.
This was one od the largest Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory and it resulted in heavy damage in different regions.
The rear Ryazan region came under massive attack. Ukrainian UAVs struck an oil depot in the city of Ryazan. The local Ryazan CHP and an oil refinery were also reportedly damaged.
According to the targeted facilities, probably the Ukrainian military attempted to struck or disrupt the operation of the pipeline running through Ryazan to the territory of Belarus.
Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile systems of the Russian air defense forces were very active repelling the attack. Their anti-aircraft missiles flying very low over the city to intercept enemy UAVs that approach the target at low altitude. The footage showed the destruction of several UAVs but some of them managed to reach the target. During the strikes, debris an intercepted UAV fell on a private house which caught fire.
More damage was caused by Ukrainian strikes in the border Bryansk region, where Ukrainian UAVs struck the Kremny plant (Silicon El Group). This plant is one of the largest chip manufacturers in the country. The plant suspended its operations after the attack. Six strikes were recorded at its facilities at night. No one was injured but part of the production and energy supply facilities as well as a warehouse were damaged. This is not the first Ukrainian attack on the plant. According to local reports, this is the fourth attack there. In October last year, the power supply was also disrupted by the strikes and the plant suspended its operations that were soon resumed.
Ukrainian strikes again targeted an oil refinery in the city of Engels in the rear Saratov region. The city hosts large military airfield of the strategic Russian aviation and is targeted by the Ukrainian military on a regular basis. Last night, the locals confirmed explosions during the strikes of Russian air defense in the city but no damage was confirmed as a result of the attack.
The massive strikes on Russian territory were launched amid the reports about the upcoming negotiations between Moscow and Washington. The Ukrainian military may attempt more provocations in the nearest future in order to play muscles and prove its effectiveness untik its too late.
In their turn, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue precision strikes on targets throughout Ukraine. According to preliminary reports, at least eight Ukrainian regions came under attacks.
Russian UAVs targeted the capital of Ukraine and its outskirts. Russian strikes in Brovary destroyed the base of foreign military instructors, including from the UK. The headquarters building was partially destroyed. According to preliminary reports, the Thales TRC 3700 encrypted communication terminals and the BGAN Explorer 727 satellite station were destroyed, and the local server center was damaged. Russian military sources confirm the elimination of at least one British instructor. More foreigners were wounded.
An intercepted Russian drone fell on an apartment building and caused fire in Glevakha in the Kyiv region:
Russian drones have continued strikes on Ukrainian military airfields for several nights in a row. The military airfields of Ozerne in the Zhitomir region and Starokonstantinov in the Khmelnitsky region. The Air Force of Ukraine suffered losses in aircraft and infrastructure was damaged at both airfields. Ukrainian Su-27 was heavily damaged in Ozerne and MiG-29 was destroyed in Starokonstantinov, where repare hangers and equipment were also destroyed.
The base of the special aviation detachment of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine came under attack in Nezhin in the Chernihiv region. Its territory was used as a launch site for Ukrainian long-range drones. According to Russian monitoring sources, the Thales STAR NG radar station was destroyed, the Hughes HM400 satellite communications complex and the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion flight control system were damaged.
According to local reports, Russian drones also reached targets in the Western Lviv and Zhitomir regions. Explosions were reported in the city of Lviv but targets and any damage are yet to be confirmed.
