Amid the ongoing battles on the frontlines, Russia and Ukraine continue exchanging strikes in their rear regions.
On the morning of December 16th, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation summed up the results of night battles between Russian air defense against Ukrainian drones. Ukrainian forces attempted drone strikes in the morning but they were repelled by Russian air defense forces. Three Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed in the border Bryansk region. No damage has been reported in Russian rear so far.
On the other hand, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue pounding Ukrainian forces in the rear regions with drones, missiles and heavy bombs.
There were several waves of drone strikes launched in the morning hours. Explosions thundered in the Cherkassy, Khmelnitsky, Sumy, Kharkiv regions.
According to preliminary reports, the Starokonstantinov military airfield came under another attack. A fire was reported in the area. The concrete facilities at the airfield are pounded by constant Russian strikes aimed to thwart Ukrainian attempts to restore the damaged infrastructure.
Missile strikes were reported in the border Sumy region. Iskander missile reportedly destroyed military base of the Ukrainian unit that is taking part in military operations in the Kursk region.
In the morning, Russian forces launched a series of strikes in the Cherkassy region. Explosions thundered in the north of the region, including in the area of Kryukovka. The strikes were launched immediately after the Ukrainian military displayed its reserve forces in the area. In particular, armored vehicles with new tactical signs were shown accumulated in the area, presumably preparing for another counter offensive.
As a result of Russian strikes, an energy facility used by the Ukrainian military was also reportedly damaged in the Cherkasy region.
