Gifts Exchange: Kiev’s jet drones against Moscow’s full-fledged strike on Ukraine’s energy system.

Strikes on Russia

On November 28, at least several dozens of Ukrainian drones were shot down over Russian territory. The most massive raid was against the Kuban Region.

“14 UAVs were destroyed over the territory of the Krasnodar Territory, six – over the territory of the Bryansk Region, three – over the territory of the Republic of Crimea, and two – over the Rostov Region,” the Russian MoD

In addition, on the morning of November 28, two UAVs were intercepted over the territory of the Kursk Region.

Other unusual incident included the attack by four Ukrainian jet drones that were shot down on the approach to Melitopol (Zaporizhia Region).

Finally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched 40 UAVs, subsonic cruise Neptun missiles and presumably British Storm Shadow missiles towards a military Air Base in Belbek (a village near Sevastopol, Crimea). The Russian military shot down all the targets.

Strikes on Ukraine

Meanwhile, Russia has struck targets in Ukraine with 90 missiles and more than 100 drones in response to recent ATACMS attacks.

“In response to the Kiev regime’s strikes deep into Russian territory, the Russian Armed Forces have struck the locations where the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Western long-range weapon systems are deployed,” the Russian MoD

On November 28, 2024, Russian forces conducted a combined massive attack using combat drones, operational-tactical missile systems, Kh-101/Kh-BD cruise missiles, and Kalibr missiles. The main targets were strategic energy infrastructure facilities and plants of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.

Trihatki, Nikolaev Region (5:14 a.m.)

Kalibr missile hit a 330-kV substation and destroyed an autotransformer. A massive fire damaged insulators, disconnectors and high-voltage lines. Electricity transmission between the southern and central regions of Ukraine was seriously disrupted.

Shostakovka, Kirovograd Region (5:48 a.m.)

Two Kalibr cruise missiles struck a 330-kV electrical substation, causing a transformer fire as well as other equipment damage. The attack resulted in power outages in many areas of the Kirovograd Region.

Lutsk (6:21 a.m.)

The Kalibr strike hit a 330-kV electrical substation, resulting in the complete disabling of the transformer and damage to the relay protection system. Power outages have been reported in the region, and industrial and residential facilities have been paralyzed.

Rivne (06:17 a.m.)

Two Kalibr missiles struck a 330 kV substation, causing a transformer to ignite. The fire was accompanied by arc flashes that damaged equipment and high-voltage lines Rivne – Lutsk. The region’s power supply has been disrupted.

Shepetivka, Khmelnytskyi Region (06:14 a.m.)

A Kalibr cruise missile struck a 330 kV substation, causing the destruction of switchgear and the ignition of an autotransformer. The power supply of the Khmelnytskyi Region was disrupted.

Mikhaylovka, Vinnytsia Region (09:11 a.m.)

At least four Kh-101/X-BD cruise missiles hit a 750 kV substation, which is one of the key for power supply in the central region. The power transmission line in the direction of Kiev (“Vinnitsa-Kiev”) is completely shut down.

Additional targets of the strikes:

“Khartron”, Kharkiv – an enterprise specializing in missile control systems suffered significant damage to its production facilities.

“Telekart-Pribor”, Odessa – workshops for the production of military radio-electronic systems were hit.

“Shostka Chemical Reagents Plant”, Sumy Region – warehouses were destroyed, causing secondary explosions, damaging adjacent buildings.

Nerubayskoye, Odessa Region

Ukrainian air defense systems damaged residential buildings on Nina Strokata Street. Two civilian casualties were reported, roofs and glazing of buildings were destroyed.

Apart from that, the strike on the Yablunitsa small hydroelectric power plant (Ivano-Frankivsk Region) by a cruise missile is worth mentioning.

This is the first recorded attack on this plant, which played a strategic role as a backup power source for the military Air Base in Kolomyia. The hit caused severe damage.

This strike has a double meaning:

Energy – the station’s failure reduces the reliability of the region’s power system, placing additional strain on civilian and military infrastructure.

Military – the temporary disabling of the backup power source for the Kolomyia Air Base hampers ongoing operations, including transport of military cargo and ensuring the combat readiness of F-16 fighter aircrafts.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently working with the General Staff to choose new targets for the Oreshnik hypersonic missiles. The country has started its serial production. It is possible that further strikes with the newest weapon will be carried out against decision-making centers in Kiev. The Kremlin justifies such decisions by saying that Kiev has repeatedly tried to attack targets in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

russia produces 10x the amount of shells/missiles the west does, orders of magnitude cheaper, and intended to increase it by over 20% next year, there’s no reason to stop. since russia failed to nib evil in the bud, better to set the whole root on fire while bankrupting the west.

decision making centres in kybb might be more symbolic, since ample warning will be given. there would be important decision making centres within 1000 km of kybb.

while symbolic gestures are better than nothing, they still don’t compare to slam dunk military strikes, such as some think may have happened in dnipro, where an entire arms factory may have been laid to waste underground. such targets would have significant advantage.
