Overview Of Russian And Ukrainian Strikes On December 21, 2024

The Kyiv regime increased drone attacks on civilian targets in Russia, including Kazan city. The Russian Armed Forces continue its campaign of destroyed military infrastructure of Ukraine.

Strikes on Russia

In the evening of December 20, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a series of strikes on targets inside Russia.

At 19:00-20:00 local time, two unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed by Russian air defense systems over the territory of the Belgorod region, one – over the territory of the Kursk region, and another one – over the Bryansk region.

At ~20:00-21:00 local time, Russian forces intercepted three Ukrainian UAVs over Belgorod and Bryansk regions. Two – over Belgorod and another one – over Bryansk.

In the morning of December 21, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that overnight its forces had intercepted 19 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, which were trying to hit Russian targets.

Nine UAVs were shot down over the territory of the Belgorod region, five -over the territory of the Voronezh region, three – over the Black Sea, one – over the Kursk region and another one – over Krasnodar region.

On December 21, the Kyiv regime made an attempt to carry out a terrorist attack using an aircraft-type UAV against targets on the territory of Russia. The Ukrainian UAV was destroyed over the territory of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan (also known as Tatarstan Region).

A Ukrainian attack was also aimed at the city of Kazan. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the UAVs were incoming in three waves from different directions. Three UAVs were eliminated by air defense systems, and three more UAVs were suppressed by electronic warfare systems.

Meanwhile, media reported that up to three kamikaze drones have struck a number of residential high-rises. Several news outlets have published what appear to be video clips shot by eyewitnesses, which depict the moment of the attack and its aftermath.

Local authorities reported that the attack resulted in no casualties. The residents were safely evacuated from the targeted buildings.

Russia’s Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviatsiya) had imposed temporary restrictions at Kazan airport. 

Strikes on Ukraine

On December 21, the Russian Defense Ministry released a statement saying that Operational-Tactical Aviation, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces struck power facilities that support Ukrainian defence industry enterprises, infrastructure of military airfields and one depot with attack UAVs. Gatherings of manpower and military hardware of Kyiv’s forces in 147 areas were also among the targets.

Earlier, the Russian military reported that from in the period from December 14 to 20 December 2024, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out 24 group strikes by precision weaponry and attack unmanned aerial vehicles on targets on the territory controlled by the Kyiv regime. The strikes hit energy facilities that were used to support the AFU, infrastructure of military airfields, UAV workshops and depots, a military echelon at an offloading site, as well as temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries.

Furthermore, according to local media, a series of explosions hit the industrial areas, weapon depots and other objects of military infrastructure in the areas of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Kherson and some other towns across Russia. Pro-Kyiv outlets speculated that the Russians once again employed Kinzhal missiles as well as a lot of Geran UAVs.
