Oil Companies Evacuate Staff from Nigerian Delta

Militants killed 2 policemen in Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta on May 9.  3 more soldiers were killed in a second attack.

The attacks took place a day after 5  police officers were shot dead in the region.

The recent attacks have raised concern that militants might resume an insurgency that has been quiet for the past several years.

On May 10, a labour union called for the evacuation of oil workers from the region. According to Reuters, at least, Chevron had evacuated some staff from the Delta following a similar move by Shell.
