On the morning of September 20, the video reportedly showing the destroyed observation post of Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh was shared online. Unofficial Russian military sources confirmed that the destruction of the post. No Russian servicemen were killed or wounded.

No details on the location of the observation post were provided. The Russian sources added that amid intense fighting, shells from the both sides can hit positions of Russian peacekeepers in the region.

There are less than 2,000 Russian peacekeepers deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh. They have no heavy military equipment as well as no right to open fire on any of the warring sides until their lives are not in danger. Russian servicemen deployed on the 102 military base in Gyumri in Armenia also have no legal grounds to enter the conflict.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the fate of the settlement of the situation in the region, as well as the position of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, was influenced by Armenia’s recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of the territory of Azerbaijan in October 2022 and May 2023.

However, Russian peacekeepers do not leave the war-torn region and are busy saving the civilian population. They organized the evacuation of the civilian population from the most dangerous areas, as well as the provision of medical assistance to the wounded, including children. According to official data, more than 2,000 people have already been evacuated to safe areas.

Meanwhile, Yerevan continues to try to blame Russia for its own defeat. Armenian media widely shared reports that the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire on vehicles carrying Russian peacekeepers as they attempted to evacuate women and children from Nagorno-Karabakh through the Berdzor/Lachin corridor. The claims were allegedly made by the Ombudsman of Artsakh.

However, the reports were not confirmed. The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan refuted them.

“The information spread in Armenian social networks about the shelling of the column of the Russian peacekeeping contingent evacuating residents of Armenian origin is disinformation,” the claim reads.

Years-long anti-Russian policy of Pashinyan resulted in Russophobic sentiments in the population. While the Russian military has no legal ground to enter the battle for Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenians staged protests in front of the Russian embassy in Yerevan. They first asked Russians to help but then accused Moscow in their defeat in Artsakh.

retarded armenian propaganda most likely to get russia to attack azerbaijan. but if azerbaijan gets out of line, russian army and air force will need to do an smo against them. azeris have no airforce, limited air defense, and not part of nato. if turks interfere and attack russia, russia has every right to smash them like they did in saraqib 2020 when su34 sent 60 turkish occupiers to ottoman paradise with a kab-1500l :)

russia’s hands are tied in ukraine. it can’t do much. russia’s deployment isn’t for peach. it aims to keep the azerbaijanis from taking back their land until russia concludes its war in ukraine. i don’t think the azerbaijanis will wait for that moment. in an article on islam4life, i noted that re-igniting frozen conflicts around russia’s borders may be one way the u.s. can put pressure on russia.
