The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) has reportedly begun to play a larger role in intercepting Ukrainian drones over both the special military operation zone and Russia.
On June 9, the Russian Ministry of Defenses released video footage showing a Su-30SM intercepting a drone over the special military operation zone with an air-to-air missile.
The ministry said at the time that the drone was shot down over the area of responsibility of the Vostok Group of Forces, without providing any more details.
“We received the air signal. We taxied and took off. Following commands from the command post, we went to the duty area. An air target was detected in the air and identified as foreign. They successfully launched and destroyed it. We completed the anti-missile maneuver and returned to the airfield,” the fighter jet crew were quoted as saying.
On June 13, another video surfaced online showing a Su-30SM of the VKS firing an air-to-air missile at another Ukrainian drone, this time over an unspecified area in Russia. The interception was reportedly successful.
While Ukrainian drones were likely intercepted before by Russian fighter jets, the recent videos indicate that the VKS has begun to play a larger role in countering this threat.
Reconnaissance and combat drones of Kiev forces posed a real threat to Russian troops in the early months of the special military operation. Nevertheless, this threat very much faded over the past year, mainly thanks to the efforts of Russian air defenses.
Meanwhile, Ukrainians attacks with suicide drones on Russian territory increased significantly over the past year. Hundreds of drones were intercepted in the last few months.
Fighter jets, especially modern types like the Su-30Sm, can be very effective against drones as they can be deployed rapidly to close any air defense gaps and use their radars and infrared trackers to detect low-flying aerial objects better than ground-based air defenses.

“j. edgar hoover was my role model. just like me, he was also a closet gay. we both have to play the hard tough guy (more than our colleagues) in order to keep the fake masculine image, which is very difficult, because inside i am just a lil girl, begging to be banged by a huge wild bbc. in my office i am surrounded by negroes, i get wet every time they call me ‘lindy” and i go to toilet to dry my ass. but in public i have to play the white supremascist in order to keep my naive voters base.”
😂🤣😂
this reminds me of raf pilots who were taking out the german v1 flying bombs.
it is.
the problem is to see them . tennis rackets might do it
funny the yak -130 trainer would perfect for this role and the best part it’s real time targeting something most pilots never receive in their careers
so then russia, deploy a tethered airship radar systems that can relay this information to cc
