New Russian RS-26 ICBM is going to be tested soon

A Russian news agency reported citing a source in the defense industry that Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces will test-fire an RS-26 Rubezh state-of-the-art intercontinental ballistic missile in the second quarter of 2016.

“The firing is to be conducted in the second quarter of this year from the Kapustin Yar range at the Balkhash range in Kazakhstan,” the source said.

Rubezh or the RS-26 solid-propellant ballistic missile is based on the RS-24 missile. According to the source the RS-26 will be lighter than RS-24 and will be capable of carrying multiple warhead. It can be launched only from mobile systems not from silos.

Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces is expected to get these missiles in 2016.
