A new modification of an electrooptic device for protection of the military hardware against enemy’s antitank guided missiles has been spotted on the Syrian T-72 tanks and military vehicles.

During fighting in Aleppo, Syrian government’s troops have started to use the T-72 main battle tanks, equipped with a new modification of an electrooptic device for protection of the military hardware against enemy’s antitank guided missiles, the Vestnik Mordovii informational website reported.
About six months ago, the website announced that Syrian designers were actively working to improve protection means of Syrian Army’s armored vehicles, and promised that very soon we will have a chance to see results of these works. So, its prediction was correct.
Compared to the earlier version of the Sarab-1 active protection system, the modernized version, nicknamed ‘Birdhouse’, features a larger number of peepholes, which, apparently, allow to create jamming on a larger number of frequency. This should make Syrian tanks more invulnerable.
These devices are used even on military vehicles of Syrian soldiers.
Who is the manufacturer of this device? I can’t find data about it on Wikipedia.

Don’t expect wikipedia to provide any reliable information on military equipment. Also, I don’t think there’s much data on this system at all. Maybe in a few months something will come out. It appears like something designed domestically to work against systems used by the terrorists. As many TOWs and other systems have been captured by the SAA, it’s likely a cheap and effective device.
lets wait until they are tested. Talking big about new weapon systems is a common mistake.
This is 2nd generation – they’ve already been tested on the Syrian battlefield.

You say ‘electro-optical device – does that mean it’s infra red? Then different frequencies is mentioned, so would that be light frequencies, or/and, electronic sound frequencies?

no. system like the TOW are being jammed by fucking up the aiming system, which is based on an infrared sensor. Basically the launcher passes the targets coordinates to the missile via the wire, but also tracks the missile position in relation to the aimpoint through optronic means. these system make the launcher “believe” that their aimpoint is actually over and to the side of the real one, so the missile gets guided to an area away from the target.
