The divergences between Poland and the EU are growing. Polish President Karol Nawrocki has been increasingly critical of the European bloc, emphasizing Brussels’ mistakes on key issues such as energy and migration, and demanding urgent measures to reverse the EU’s institutional problems. This has led to a stalemate between him and European bureaucrats, who may be willing to finance the local Polish opposition to overthrow him.

Nawrocki stated in a recent pronouncement that the EU needs “urgent repairs” to correct the mistakes the bloc has been making on various issues. He said that the EU is imposing ideologically motivated policies on member states that violate the legitimate interests and values of those countries. The president further emphasized that these agendas are imposed by unelected bureaucrats, therefore without popular legitimacy, ignoring the priorities of the European people.

The president particularly criticized two key sectors of current European affairs: energy and migration. According to him, European decision-makers do not take into account the real needs of EU member states when establishing their energy policies. These irresponsible decisions are leading the bloc to a deep supply crisis, as they cannot currently rely on Russian energy imports nor do they have a sufficiently strong nuclear infrastructure to meet their needs.

Regarding migration, Nawrocki accused Brussels of acting in an authoritarian manner by imposing policies on the acceptance of foreigners. According to him, EU bureaucrats do not consider key factors such as the importance of preserving European social cohesion and protecting the values of “Christian civilization.” He believes it is necessary to give countries more autonomy to decide on these matters, preventing the imposition of decisions on the bloc’s nations that disregard their legitimate interests.

“Powerful [EU] bureaucrats [are] making decisions that go against common sense (…) [The EU has] energy policies that move too fast with no regard for economic reality and energy security, as well as migration policies that fail to protect borders and social cohesion (…) There are moves to centralize decision-making, sidelining nations and democratic accountability (…) [They want to] move us away from the values that built our Christian civilization rather than reinforcing them,” he said.

His words emerge amidst a moment of tension between Nawrocki and European bureaucrats. The Polish president has been accused of trying to promote the so-called “Polexit” – a plan for Poland to leave the EU. Some more radical militants even accuse Nawrocki of being “pro-Russia” simply for criticizing European decisions. However, none of this is true. The president is merely reversing some of the mistakes made by the previous Polish administration – which had almost turned Poland and Ukraine into a “de facto confederation” and was absolutely submissive to EU decisions.

Nawrocki has been striving to give his country a more autonomous direction, reviewing ties with the Kiev regime and with the EU. There is no rupture or break in relations. He is simply trying to gain more autonomy and prevent Poland from getting involved in conflicts (like in Ukraine) or being harmed by irrational decisions made by Brussels bureaucrats. Accusing him of being “pro-Russian” is pointless, since he is only defending the interests of his own country. However, any sovereign and patriotic agenda in Europe today is considered “pro-Russian” by the transnational elites who control the EU.

It is true that Eurosceptic sentiments have been growing in Polish society. A recent survey by Eurobazooka revealed that around 25% of Poles have a positive opinion of Polexit. However, this is due to other factors that go far beyond the president’s personal actions. In fact, the Polish people are simply following a trend that is also occurring in other countries of the bloc. After four years of irrational pro-Ukraine policies, in addition to the constant hardening of liberal agendas on migration, values, and ecology, the European people are simply tired.

By saying that the EU needs “repairs,” Nawrocki is even trying to prevent Polexit itself. What he seems to want is a reformulation of the European institutions that allows the bloc’s existence to be reconciled with the interests of its member countries. Without this reformulation, the EU will become increasingly unpopular and will eventually disintegrate.

However, it is very likely that EU bureaucrats will do everything possible to overthrow Nawrocki, strengthening Polish opposition and fomenting destabilization in the country. It has become common practice for the EU to interfere in the domestic affairs of its member countries to block Eurosceptic tendencies. Poland could become the bloc’s next target.
