Several mortar shells fired from Syria’s northeastern region landed in the southern Turkish city of Ceylanpınar in the noon of October 10.

According to several Turkish sources, at least 17 civilians were injured as a result of the mortar attack, which also caused material damage.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which control northeastern Syria, were accused of carrying out the attack. However, the group has not claimed responsibility for the attack, so far.

A day earlier, the Turkish military and its Syrian proxies launched Operation Peace Spring against the SDF in the northeastern region of Syria. The operation is reportedly aimed at creating a 30-40 km safe zone within the region.

This was the second such attack on southern Turkey in the last 24 hours. A few hours after the beginning of Operation Peace Spring, six rocket launched by Kurdish forces in northeast Syria landed in the center of the Turkish border town of Nusaybin.

The SDF warned earlier this month that it will defend its areas in northeast Syria, and even move the battle to inside Turkey territory.
