The Houthis (Ansar Allah) on April 11 carried out another drone attack against Israel, despite an uptake in United States strikes on Yemen.
Two Yafa drones were launched at “military targets” close to the central Israeli city of Tel Aviv, Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement, noting that the attack was carried out “in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and their dear Mujahideen, and in response to the ongoing war of genocide against our brothers in Gaza.”
“The Yemeni Armed Forces assure the oppressed Palestinian people that they will remain steadfast in their support and assistance, will not retreat, and will not stop. Confronting the ongoing American aggression against our country will not, with God’s help, prevent it from continuing to fulfill its religious, moral, and humanitarian duty toward the steadfast people of Gaza until the aggression against them stops and the siege is lifted,” the spokesman added.
The Yafa is a larger version of an Iranian suicide drone codenamed by the United States military and intelligence as KAS-04 with an estimated range of around 2,000 kilometers. The Houthis have been operating several versions of the KAS-04 dubbed Samad-1, 2, 3 and 4 for more than six years now.
Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces announced that a drone launched at Israel “from the east” – a term usually used to refer to attacks originating from Yemen – was shot down by the Israeli Air Force close to the Dead Sea in the country’s western region.
Separately, the Jordanian Armed Forces said that a drone “of an unknown origin” infiltrated the Kingdom’s airspace and crashed in the western province of Madaba, near the Dead Sea. Video footage posted to social networks showed fire at the crash site.
The drone attack took place as the United States Central Command was launching more strikes on Yemen in the framework of the operation ordered by President Donald Trump on March 15.
Two strikes hit the western Yemeni province of al-Hodeidah and at least four others targeted the region around the capital, Sanaa, according to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, which didn’t report any casualties. The news channel noted that the strikes on al-Hodeidah caused “heavy damage” to communication infrastructure.
The operation against the Houthis has so far claimed the lives of 90 people, including civilians, and cost the U.S. more than $1 billion.
Despite the heavy cost, the U.S. has nothing to show for. The operation is yet to deter the Houthis or to degrade their military capabilities.
