you would think they would do that every time. russia could save a lot of personal and equipment if they used more conventional modern tactics (destroy supply lines, have air cover available for advancing troops, have proper communications so troops can call in artillery and air strikes). they also never seem to really get a handle on the ukrop air defenses so they never really control the airspace, very, very strange.
