I see headlines about routine, and that is what this conflict is turning into. A conflict that just has its daily spot on the news and little else – a certain steady state is developing. It will be interesting to see what happens next and what the plans of Russia are. Lavrov is signalling a widening of the conflict, and for me this is the only thing that makes sense given the Ukrainian Nazi’s position of unending conflict egged on by a chorus of western supporters, with no real interest in the wellbeing of ordinary Ukrainian people – they see them as cannon fodder – fight to the last Ukrainian. However, are Russia simply going to time that break from routine, after meeting the original goals in Donbas and after taking advantage of a defensive entrenched position in Kherson to generate a high debilitating kill rate on the Ukrainian Nazis – a sort of offence in the east, defence in the west approach.
Panning out to the big picture – the world is split, a multipolar world is forming and western influence is now diminished and challenged everywhere. That is a huge achievement for Russia – the west has failed to isolate it! So in the big picture ‘routine’ suits the formation of the multipolar world. It will be interesting to see if ‘routine’ suits Russia for a very long time, or whether it will need break the routine decisively to end it and move on to concentrate on the multipolar world that through its commitment and the bravery of its people, it has created!

Indeed your statement really beams the lack of thinking in the western calculus. I always remember a discussion I had with a Russian military analyst – the gist of it was that Russia does not need a navy as much as the west – that Russia could have all its naval forces destroyed and the west could have all its naval forces destroyed – a parity argument. However, it would be the west that would be most affected as Russia just basically has an army. The smart ones will realise that applies to everything, be it influence, be it reserve currency privileges, global trade agreements….
The military situation in Ukraine is that two Russian battalions are fully encircled in Vysokopillya near Kherson and about to be captured by Ukrainian forces. The rest will be cut off eventually once the supply lines are destroyed and the shitty Russian army west of Crimea will eventually be annihilated. Obviously Putin’s cockroaches are in desperate mode trying to open new supply routes to avoid to be completely cut off. Putin is fucked.
