Started with protests in Daraa in 2011, the Syrian conflict rapidly turned into a war with a number of foreign powers supporting various militant groups (including al-Qaeda-linked) against the government of Bashar al-Assad. Since then, the country has been a point of instability in the Middle East.
Russia began a military intervention in Syria in 2015 after an official request by the Syrian government for military help against militant groups. This allowed the Syrian government to survive and to regain initiative in a battle against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), ISIS and other militant groups.

Military Situation In Syrian City Of Raqqah On July 4, 2017 (Map Update)
The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are clashing with ISIS terrorists in the Syrian city of Raqqah. However, SDF units have not been able to enter Old Raqqah area despite repeated attempts to do it because of a fierce ISIS resistance there.
Agreed. On top of that, contrary to this report, SDF sources claim they have breached the wall around the old city on two locations through small bressess.
If one looks on where th actual fighting is, SDF ties another pincher movement centered on the north by isolating the old city.
It is possible the fight for Raqqah city will not take as long as the fight for Mosul. A bigger city, yes but also assaulted by much larger forces with more heavy equipment.
It will take some time, but the fate of Raqqah is sealed.

Breach of walls confirmed by US. Already first public buildings there liberated. Hundreds of SDF fighters have entered the old city.

So what is meant by “clashing” and “fierce resistance”? How many casualties? What is happening to the residents? How reliable is the news source?
Hope the SDF brought along water pumps to flood any ISIS tunnels that were missed earlier.
SDF kicks ass while the Sissy Arab Army sucks ass.
