Started with protests in Daraa in 2011, the Syrian conflict rapidly turned into a war with a number of foreign powers supporting various militant groups (including al-Qaeda-linked) against the government of Bashar al-Assad. Since then, the country has been a point of instability in the Middle East.
Russia began a military intervention in Syria in 2015 after an official request by the Syrian government for military help against militant groups. This allowed the Syrian government to survive and to regain initiative in a battle against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), ISIS and other militant groups.
it’s a big dessert there’s no key areas or cities in there so the colors doesn’t mean they control all of that territory..beside that isis is retreating from those areas to fight SAA and SDF on other fronts
As small group took a small village, maybe small city, in empty desert and all the area to the south and east are colored in. As soon as the SDF or SAA or IS even mount an attack on that village, the region will change color again.
All three mentioned parties have an interest in taking the area for the nearing end game.
The border is already closed to SAA and has been for years, except for possible trade through SDF region. A change in control from ISIS to FSA/US will only mean civilian relief and trade in Dier Ezzor and hopefully an inactive front or ceasefire there while everyone fights ISIS. No loss there to anyone but ISIS.
Its just dessert my friend… Wait until they reach the crossroads or the nearby airfields…. They will not manage to capture it in that short time as they do the dessert…

lets get serious…too many lives lost already. Divide the country and give some to FSA and Kurds and Palestinians in semi autonomous regions but having a representative in Damascus federal govt. Al Assad will not find peace in his country unless he is willing to compromise, that is his best option. Say no and this war continues until he is assassinated or bombed. There is no way US or the West are going to pack up and leave the opposition to al Assad in the lurch. Oh and also fact that petrodollar will go another step to be saved…next target Iran. But for now, Syrians better something than nothing.
SAA must not let terrorists to close border with Iraq, how they make so big progress in desert?? Just How!?!!?

Completely correct. In a way a stupid move as it makes them very vulnarable there unless they can reinforce heavily.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libyan_Civil_War_(2014%E2%80%93present) , What should I know about Libya that isn’t here? Which factions defend abortion rights????
