today sohr activists reported that, al-suwaidaa province has witnessed a complete outage of telecommunications and internet services due to a malfunction in the fiber optic cable and a power outage across the entire province. currently, only satellite internet services are available.
however, no official body has issued any clarification regarding the reasons behind this sudden outage, while residents are experiencing an almost complete disruption of telecommunications and internet services,
amjad says: “we spent a beautiful month with the family, but suddenly, in just two days, everything turned upside down. it was july 13”, on that day, bloody clashes broke out between bedouin groups and local fighters in suwayda.

but things didn’t get better.
over the past 24 hours, sohr documented the killing of nine people, four fighters from al-suwaidaa druze factions and five members of syrian government forces, during armed attacks that targeted several military sites and posts around al-suwaidaa on sunday, august 3.
since the morning of sunday, july 13, the death toll in al-suwaidaa from clashes, field executions, and israeli shelling has risen to 1,520.
firas and amjad’s brother were killed by direct gunfire, and the house was then hit by five rocket launchers before being completely burned.
the next day, amjad learned the news from neighbors who had managed to hide. on july 17, the remains of her brother’s body and firas’ watch were found among the rubble. the family was not able to return to the city until a week later, amid disastrous security conditions, and took shelter in an uncle’s house.
according to radio france internationale, amjad and her husband, firas, decided to leave the country and seek asylum in france in rejection of the suppression of bashar al-assad’s regime since the start of the syrian revolution in 2011, as they completed their studies between 2005 and 2011.
the couple settled in northwestern france in 2014 and quickly obtained french citizenship. firas works in the field of computer science, and amjad is a mathematics professor.
