Started with protests in Daraa in 2011, the Syrian conflict rapidly turned into a war with a number of foreign powers supporting various militant groups (including al-Qaeda-linked) against the government of Bashar al-Assad. Since then, the country has been a point of instability in the Middle East.
Russia began a military intervention in Syria in 2015 after an official request by the Syrian government for military help against militant groups. This allowed the Syrian government to survive and to regain initiative in a battle against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), ISIS and other militant groups.

LS PGM (precision guided munitions) is a Chinese made kit that convert an unguided bomb into a precision guided bomb. Even Syria can make these kits. These kits can be fit on the unguided bombs and on unguided rockets to convert them to guided bombs and guided missiles.

Russia also use smart bombs called KAB in which guidance system is integrated. But Russia also use unguided bombs for which they use a computer called SVP-24 in the fighter jet. For this the computer guide the pilot to bring the fighter jet to a specific point to release the bomb. If the pilot miss the point then computer will not release the bomb. Second for SVP-24 the fighter jet should be close to the target for precise target 3000 to 5000 meters. Therefore, with this system the fighter jets are targeted by MANPADs.
While with LS PGM or JDAM kits your fighter jet does not need to be precisely on a particular point to release the bomb. You can target any point precisely even from 100 km altitude.

JDAM is a US made kit to convert an unguided bomb into a guided bomb.
How can the SAA counter the use of ATGM’s? Is there a technical system?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarab_Active_Protection_System
Syrian defence industries have already developed a very effective anti ATGM Systems which is called SARAB-3 APS.
I was wondering about countering the ATGM’s supplied by Turkey to the terrorists. You may recall that Turkey supplied ATGM’s to Albanian terrorists who destroyed Armenian tanks in Nagorno-Karabakh. What can the SAA do to counter this problem?
Instead of complaining its better to go to better option which is to use SARAB-3 everywhere, where Syrian army needs. This SARAB-3 will give active protection against ATGMs.
not completely useless. all countermeasures are not 100% successful. the success rate of this might be 50%
