Started with protests in Daraa in 2011, the Syrian conflict rapidly turned into a war with a number of foreign powers supporting various militant groups (including al-Qaeda-linked) against the government of Bashar al-Assad. Since then, the country has been a point of instability in the Middle East.
Russia began a military intervention in Syria in 2015 after an official request by the Syrian government for military help against militant groups. This allowed the Syrian government to survive and to regain initiative in a battle against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), ISIS and other militant groups.
You are right. Everywhere is a certain stalemate except of N. Hama and W. Aleppo. There is no real benefit to free Idlib and get the western part of Syria while the East, North and southeast is under foreign controls.
Few weeks ago, Sam Kylie reporting on Sky TV News UK, squealed that on there are Iraqi Shia Militias in place on the west bank side of Mosul preventing IS from crossing over and regrouping in Syria.
Iraqi Shia Militia need to play a more active part in Western Syria as a whole.
True, but that bulge has to be eliminated, otherwise Al Nusra will use it again to distract the SAA when its busy elsewhere. It has happened again, and again, and again.

Based on the battle for Aleppo, retaking Idlib will be a formidable task.
The Idlib enclave is a threat to Syria as a whole due to an overwhelming concentration of Terrorists who are supplied by the “Terrorist Axis”.
The US, UK, France, NATO, Turkey, Saudi, Qatar, etc, are the “Terrorist Axis” well known facilitators of Terrorism in Syria and other countries by unlawfully financing, arming and training terrorists as well as unlawful oil and weapons trafficking and trading with terrorists.
The SAA should quickly restart the offence to the al-Busari crossroads. We can’t let the Jordanian New Syrian Army get there.
