The situation on frontlines around the Idlib de-escalation zone once again stabilized after a series of failed militant attacks on Syrian Arab Army (SAA) positions in northwestern Hama. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), the National Front for Liberation and other Idlib groups seem to be unable to break the SAA defense and make notable gains there. At the same time, the  SAA’s hands are tied because of agreements reached in the framework of the Astana format.

  • The Afrin Forces of Liberation (AFL) revealed data on new attacks on Turkish targets in the Afrin region. Two militants were killed and four others were injured in an ATGM strike on July 4. Four Turkish-backed militants were killed and four others were injured in an IED ambush on July 5;
  • The National Front for Liberation (NFL) targeted a group of SAA troops with an ATGM near Hawiz;
  • Militants shelled SAA positions near Kafr Nabudah;
  • A firefight was reported west of the al-Assad subrub of Aleppo city;
  • Artillery duels between the SAA and militants were ongoing near Kbanah.
