Started with protests in Daraa in 2011, the Syrian conflict rapidly turned into a war with a number of foreign powers supporting various militant groups (including al-Qaeda-linked) against the government of Bashar al-Assad. Since then, the country has been a point of instability in the Middle East.
Russia began a military intervention in Syria in 2015 after an official request by the Syrian government for military help against militant groups. This allowed the Syrian government to survive and to regain initiative in a battle against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), ISIS and other militant groups.

Breaking: Fierce clashes breakout between US-backed forces and Arab tribe in west Raqqa
BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:45 P.M.) – Fierce clashes broke out between members of the Abu Khamis tribe and U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) this afternoon following the death of a 40-year-old resident of Al-Mansoura.
According to local reports, members of the Syrian Democratic Forces opened fire on Hamdan Al-Zein after he refused conscription into their group.
Al-Zein reportedly succumbed to the wounds he sustained as a result of the gunshots; this sparked outrage amongst the Abu Khamis tribe and several residents of Al-Mansoura.
Following the death of Al-Zein, the enraged residents of Al-Mansoura began burning the SDF’s checkpoints and attacking installations.
Al-Mansoura is a town that is located directly east of Tabaqa city; it has been under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces since they began their western Raqqa campaign in 2017.
