On September 8, Al-Qaeda affiliated Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin attacked airport and military base of Gao with four suicide vehicles. 64 people, including 49 civilians and 15 military personnel were killed;
On September 8, Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin shot down a Malian Mi-8 helicopter in the Segou district;
On September 11, Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin militants attacked Timbuktu airport with artillery shells;
On September 14, Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin militants attacked Timbuktu airport with artillery shells;
On September 17, Tuareg fighters claimed control of two army bases in the town of Lere.
