A brief overview of the recent developments in Afghanistan:

  • Gen. McKenzie, commander of US Central Command, met with President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul to discuss the peace process and strengthening of joint security partnership;
  • According to Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, 1,213 civilians were killed and 1,744 were injured in the first six months of 2020;
  • According to Chief Pentagon Spokesperson Jonathan Hoffman, the US withdrawn its troops from five bases in Afghanistan and maintains its force level at mid-8,000s, as part of the U.S.-Taliban agreement reached in February;
  • A local mosque imam was assassinated in Parwan province;
  • Taliban claimed responsibility for tunnel bombing, which killed 7 ANDSF soldiers near Sangin, in Helmand province;
