A brief overview of the recent developments in Afghanistan:

  • On December 6, a car bomb exploded in the city of Jalalabad injuring several people;
  • On December 5, 5 children were reportedly killed by a drone strike in Khogyani district of Ghazi;
  • On December 5, clashes between Taliban and Afghan army forces erupted in the Dehrwaud area. 10 Taliban members were reportedly killed;
  • On December 5, Taliban Deputy Leader and his negotiators met US Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in Doha, discussing the release of prisoners and the removal of Taliban names from black list;
  • Belgium announced the withdrawal of all its troops from Afghanistan by next year. The number of Belgian troops in Afghanistan is currently around 70;
  • On December 5, 28 Taliban fighters were killed and 8 others were wounded in the Panjwai area, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.
