A brief overview of the recent developments in Afghanistan:

  • On December 25, ISIS claimed responsibility for the IED attack on Taliban in the Badil area;
  • On December 25, ISIS claimed responsibility for the IED attack in Jalalabad city;
  • On December 25, the Afghan Air Force struck Taliban positions near Balkh;
  • On December 26, five explosions took place in Deh Sabz district and Kabul city, killing two soldiers, a civilian, and wounding several others;
  • On December 25, Taliban released 30 Afghan prisoners in the Panjwai district of Kandahar province, according to Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi;
  • On December 25, Taliban attacked positions of government forces in the Sare Pol area Two civilians were reportedly killed;
  • On December 25, government forces retreated from the Atghar district. Qalat and Shinki towns are under the army control. Clashes continued along the Qalat-Qandahar road.
