Military Overview 18+: Russian Counter-Offensive Begins In Kursk Region

While large forces of the Ukrainian army are grinded in the Russian border Kursk region, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are successfully developing their offensive in different directions on the Donbass frontlines. 

In recent weeks, the Armed Forces of Ukraine failed to advance deep on the Russian territory in the Kursk region. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that in total, six Ukrainian attacks were repelled over the past day, while Russian forces are hunting for small Ukrainian mobile groups. The intensity of Ukrainian offensive operations has decreased. Russian forces counterattack, pounding Ukrainian reserves with constant strikes.

Heavy battles continue around the Sudzha area. The Russian military reported advance in the southwestern direction. The Armed Forces of Ukraine attempt unsuccessful attacks in the areas of Malaya Loknya, Korenevo, Borki, Olgovka. According to reports from the battlefield, the villages of Gordeevka, Vnezapnoe, Byahovo, Apanasovka, Oktyabr-10, Vishnevka, Komarovka came under Russian control as a result of rapid Russian assault. Ukrainian forces are threatened with encirclement in Krasnooktyabrskoe. Russians launched assault on Victorovka, Uspenovka, Obuhovka, Snagost. Russian forces took bak control of the large area of about 110 square kilometers. Some Russian military observers predict the beginning of larger Russian counter offensive in the Kursk region.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted new attacks in the Russian border Belgorod region. The local authorities confirmed attacks near the border village of Zhuravka. Ukrainian propaganda spread fake reports about Ukrainian control of the settlement but they were denied. Russian border guards repelled the attacks.

Meanwhile, the Russian army does not stop rapid offensive in the Donbass. On September 10, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed control of four strategically important settlements in different directions. They included Krasnogorovka located on the southwestern outskirts of the Donetsk urban agglomeration, Grigorovka on the northwestern outskirts of Chasov Yar, Galitsinovka in the Pokrovsk direction, and Vodyanoe in the southern Ugledar direction.

In the northern Kupyansk direction, Russian forces are expanding their zone of control south of Sinkovka, which was recently captured after prolonged heavy battles. Russian forces launched the mop up operations in the forest areas near the village.

Over the past day, the Russian army advanced east of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk urban agglomeration. According to reports from the frontlines, Russian forces advanced about 2 kilometers and took control of Ukrainian strongholds west of the village of Zaliznyanskoe. The settlement is located north of Soledar liberated last year. The Russian army is already 20 kilometers from Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, the last urban agglomeration under Ukrainian control in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Several days ago, Ukrainian authorities launched evacuation of civilian population from the settlements around Kramatorsk.

 

 

Russian flag is waving over the phenolic plant in the former New York, now Novgorodskoe, located on the outskirts of Toretsk. To the north, the battle for Nelepovka continues. Russian forces slightly expanded their zone of control in Druzhba and continue assault on the dumps of the Novaya mine. Fierce urban fighting is ongoing in Toretsk, which Russian forces encircled from several directions. According to preliminary reports, Russian forces took control of the local correctional camp #2 that the Ukrainian military turned into a military stronghold in the western part of the town.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine failed to hold control of their military positions north of the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal around the town of Chasov Yar. To the east, Ukrainian forces were recently repelled from the wide areas near Klescheevka. To the northwest, Russian forces completed the mop up operations in the village of Grigorovka and secured their control of the settlement. Urban battles continue in Chasov Yar. The Russian army is in control of the northern districts and continues assaults on the streets. The offensive is slown down in the ruins. The Ukrainian military is massively using small drones against Russian manpower and is trying to send reinforcements to the town. On September 10, the Armed Forces launched another attempt to rotate forces in Chasov Yar but failed. Ukrainian groups were spotted by Russian reconnaissance and destroyed by Russian fire.

Russian offensive in the Pokrovsk direction is bringing new victories every day. Russian flag was raised in the center of the village of Grodovka located on the  northern flank not far from Mirnograd. The Armed Forces of Ukrainian are reportedly retreating from their military positions on the western outskirts of the village.

At the same time, Russian forces entered the village of Sukhoi Yar. According to preliminary reports, the settlement is already under Russian control. Russian assault groups also gained a foothold in Lisovka located nearby.

The Russian Army is advancing in the town of Selidovo. The frontlines in the town are laying along the railways. Russian forces are maneuvering, trying to avoid frontal attacks. Russian strikes are destroying roads and bridges around the town in order to cut off the Ukrainian garrison from military supplies. The Ukrainian military command is pulling reserves to slaughter in Selidovo in an attempt to save control of the strategically important stronghold near the city of Pokrovsk.

On the southern flank, Russian forces launched assault on the town of Ukrainsk began from the eastern direction and are expanding their zone of control. Heavy battle is ongoing. At the same time, Russian attacks continue in the southern district of Ukrainsk, where Russians are in control of several streets.

The Russian Ministry of defense confirmed the full control of Galitsinovka. Russian advance was reported in Zhelannoe Pershe. Battles began in the town of Gornyak. As a result of the rapid Russian advance south of the Karlov water reservoir, large Ukrainian forces were threatened with encirclement on a wide area west of Nevelskoe. The Ukrainian grouping is forced to flee to avoid a cauldron. Ukrainian soldiers abandon their military positions together with corps of their dead comrades.

 

 

Thus, the Armed Forces failed to save control of the last military positions on the northern outskirts of the town of Krasnogorovka. LINK On September 9, this large Ukrainian stronghold on the outskirts of Donetsk came under the full control of the Russian army after heavy prolonged battles. After the mop up operations on the northwestern outskirts were completed, Russian forces expanded their zone of control in the field areas nearby, approaching the units that advance in Gornyak from the north. The recent days were marked by rapid Russian advance in the southern Ugledar direction. The strategically important village of Vodyanoe came under the full Russian control after several days of assault. Russian flag is waving over the Southern Donbass mine. Russian forces are advancing towards Bogoyavlenka, where the supply road to Ugledar is located. The loss of the village by the Ukrainian military will mean the fall of its fortress of Ugledar. South of Ugledar, Russian forces expanded their zone of control in the northern part of Pavlovka. They also recently advanced on a wide front west of the village.

Meanwhile, the Russian troops resumed offensive in the area of Konstantinovka. After they completed rotation, Russian forces advanced west of the village.

New Russian victories were reported in the Kherson region. Russian forces repelled Ukrainian groups from several islands in the Dnieper River, which are mainly in the gray zone. In this direction, the Ukrainian military is reinforcing the marine units with former prisoners, after large forces from the Ukrainian  grouping in the Kherson region were thrown to reinforce other directions.
