Militants Reject Talks, Hit Oil Facility in Nigeria

A Nigerian militant group, “the Niger Delta Avengers” rejected a talk proposal from the country’s government and attacked a Chevron oil well in Warri, Reuters reported June 8.

Earlier, the Nigerian government decided to withdraw troops from the Niger Delta region. The decision came after a meeting between top government officials, state governors and other stakeholders and was a response to complaints of heavy-handed tactics used by soldiers during the anti-militant operation in the area.

We remember, on June 7, oil prices hit an eight-month high above $51 per barrel amid the recent attacks on Nigerian oil pipelines and fell of the US stockpiles.
