Three servicemen of the Russian National Guard were fired by unknown persons from a car, while the law enforcement officers were searching for killers of two policemen in Astrakhan on the night of Thursday, the RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region. Later, four suspects in the murder of the policemen in Astrakhan were eliminated, and two others were detained.

“As part of the operational-search activities to catch the defendants in the murder of the two policemen in Astrakhan, checkpoints had been put up. Three servicemen of the National Guard were wounded at one of such checkpoints in Leninsky district of the city. Presumably, there were three attackers, they opened fire from the car’s interior, one of the attackers was killed,” the press service said.

The three servicemen of the Russian National Guard, who had been wounded in the attack, were hospitalized. Reportedly, they were transported to the Main Military Clinical Hospital of the department in Balashikha, located near Moscow.

The investigating committee reported that the attackers were involved in the murder of the two policemen on the night of April 4.

“The other participants of the attack fled, seizing weapons of the National Guard’s servicemen,” senior assistant to the head of the regional department of the investigating committee, Andrei Khegay, said.

Later, a representative of the Russian National Guard in the Astrakhan region told the news agency that the four suspects in the murder of policemen in Astrakhan were eliminated.

“One of the suspects in the murder of the policemen in Astrakhan was eliminated during the attack on the post of the National Guard, the second lost his life due to a wound in the back, the two others were surrounded and eliminated,” the news agency’s source said. He also noted that there are no casualties among servicemen of the Russian National Guard.

Later, governor of Astrakhan region, Alexander Zhilkin, said that two more people were detained.

As it became known, the alleged murderers were caught in an industrial zone near the city. They hid in one of the abandoned buildings. The place was cordoned off, the suspects started to shoot back. “Apparently, a slab of concrete in this building was tilted, as during the shootout, it crushed one of the suspects,” a source in law enforcement agencies of the region told RIA Novosti.

Searches were made in places of residence of all the suspects. An audio record, in which one of them expresses extremist views and calls for crimes, was discovered there.

As it was reported, the attackers were implicated in the murder, committed on April 4, when a group of armed people initiated a car accident in Astrakhan and killed two officers of the State Road Traffic Safety Inspectorate in order to seize their weapons.

Also on April 6, an explosion occurred near one of the schools in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don. As a result, one person was wounded.

“A man picked up a suspicious object from a road, which detonated, toring off his fingers. He also was injured in the stomach. The man was hospitalized,” a source in law enforcement agencies of the region told RIA Novosti.

According to the source, the improvised explosive device was disguised as a flashlight.

Another source of the news agency specified that the dangerous object detonated during a cleaning of the grounds, and the victim was a janitor.

A representative of the regional hospital said that the 46-year-old man has already undergone surgery, now he is in intensive care. Doctors believe that his life is not in danger.

Classes at the school have been suspended, children are not allowed into the building.
