The Mi-8 is a medium transport helicopter desinged by the USSR. It’s now produced by Russia. The Mi-17 is a miltiary version of the helicopter developed from the Mi-8 airframe. In the Russian service, it’s known as the Mi-8M.

Better than a Blackhawk and half the price
I know that British pilots training Yanks to fly these UN made aircraft, consider the Blackhawks to be inferior to the Chinook for real combat durability, and that the US pilots are ‘dangerously lax’ regarding procedures.
This is the polite version :)
Don’t get me started on the NH-90. Saw a doco on the German army and they have to weigh their soldiers before they get on board. And then their boots damaged the airframe.
That is really funny.
One of the best low cost choppers around and perhaps the most robust and easy to maintain and fly. The Afghans called it the flying jeep.
