LNA Claims Its Warplanes Destroyed Turkish Armed Drone East Of Tripoli

The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced on June 6 that its warplanes had destroyed a Turkish unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) in an airbase east of the country’s capital, Tripoli.

“A Turkish UCAV attacked our forces, our air force’s warplanes tracked it and target it while it was landing on the runway of Mitiga airbase,” the LNA’s media office said in an official statement.

The LNA and its supporters have been claiming for weeks that Turkey and Qatar have deployed UCAVs in the GNA-held airbases. Earlier this month, the army claimed that its air-defense units had hit a Turkish UCAV south of Tripoli.

While there is no evidence confirming that Turkey and Qatar are operating UCAVs over Libya, both countries are indeed known for supplying advanced weapons to pro-GNA forces.
