The Libyan National Army (LNA) has deployed large reinforcements south of the country’s capital, Tripoli, as a part of ongoing preparations for a new attack to recapture the strategic town of Garyan.

Sources close to the LNA revealed on July 3 that the reinforcements included many units from the 210th, 105th, 110th, 20th Divisions as well as from the elite Tariq bin Ziyad Fighting Battalion.

The sources released aerial footage showing dozens of armored vehicles and pickup trucks, armed with heavy guns and even anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), gathering south of Tripoli.

Last week, forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA) captured Garyan in a rapid attack. After imposing control of the town, government forces executed at least 40 injured soldiers of the LNA, who were trapped in a local hospital.

GNA forces were able to block a key supply route of the LNA from their new positions in Garyan, which explains the army’s intense efforts to recapture the town.
