On April 26, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), returned to the northern Libyan city of Benghazi after he had received medical treatment in France over the last two weeks, according to the Russian TV network RT.

Libyan sources said that LNA commanders, Libyan officials and the leaders of local tribes had organized an official reception for Haftar upon his return to Benghazi.

Few hours after returning to Benghazi, Haftar vowed in a televised speech to the Libyan people to crush terrorism in the war-torn country. He also praised the discipline and strength of the LNA.

“We made a vow to the people that the country will be rid of terrorist groups … The Libyan National Army will lead the people to their goals. The LNA was not destabilized during the recent plight,” Haftar said , according to the UK-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

Earlier this week, Libyan sources reported that the LNA, backed by Egypt and the UAE, are going to launch a large-scale military operation against the besieged militants in Darnah city once Haftar is back in Libya.

The LNA indeed launched a military operation around Darnah on April 25. It captured a key camp from the radical Shura Council of Mujahedeen in Derna. However, the operation was limited and ended within hours.

According to local observers, Haftar himself may order to launch the long-awaited military operation to capture Darnah in the upcoming days.
