The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen are ready for escalation and remain in “full coordination” with their regional allies, the group leader announced.

In a televised speech broadcast by the group’s Al-Masirah TV channel on June 4, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said that his group is prepared for “any round of escalation or any developments within the current situation.”

He further stressed that the group remains in “full coordination” with its allies in the “Axis of Resistance,” led by Iran, regarding developments in Lebanon and Palestine, as well as what he described as “unjust and aggressive” United States measures in the region.

Al-Houthi went on to warn regional parties against attempts by Washington to drag them into fighting the axis “in service of Israel.”

The Houthi leader said the region was passing through a “critical stage” and called for a high level of awareness and responsibility.

He accused Israel of committing “clear crimes” in Palestine and Lebanon and pursuing broader aggressive goals across the region.

The Houthis joined the war alongside Iran on March 28, launching missiles and drones at Israel, just 11 days before the ceasefire with the U.S. entered into effect.

And since the start of the ceasefire, the group has reportedly shot down two American drones over Yemen in an apparent warning to Washington.

Just a day after al-Houthi’s remarks, Mohsen Rezaei, a senior military adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, told CNN that the Islamic Republic will “drag the war” beyond the Persian Gulf if the U.S. resumes the conflict, potentially expanding military operations from the Strait of Hormuz to the Indian Ocean, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Houthis de facto blocked the Bab al-Mandab Strait — a checkpoint connecting the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean — in response to the Israeli war on the Palestinian Gaza Strip before. 20

It is widely believed that the group still has the capabilities to block the waterway, and al-Houthi’s latest remarks indicate that it also has the will to do so.
