On May 3, a large fire broke out at an industrial entreprise in Berlin. The facility in question belongs to the German company that makes the IRIS-T air defense systems.
The footage from the German capital show the large fire destroying the metallurgical plant that is part of the structure of the Diehl company. The entreprise is located in one of the districts of Berlin – Lichterfelde.
The plant produced metal structures and parts that were used to create military equipment, including the IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems largely supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As a result of the incident, tons of sulfuric acid and other dangerous chemical elements stored in the warehouses contaminated air in the area. A high chemical hazard regime was introduced in the German capital. The service for measuring the level of dangerous chemicals in the air is on duty.
Local residents report that the wind spread smoke to other districts of the city. No casualties have been reported yet.
