Kurdish Persherga Repels ISIS Attacks on Oil and Gas Fields

On July 31, the Kurdish Peshmerga (the military forces of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan) repelled a series of ISIS attacks on oil and gas fields located in the northwestern part of Iraq’s Kirkuk Province.

According to reports, ISIS attacked the Iraqi North Oil Company’s gas field in Bajwan village, northwest of Kirkuk. Pesherga units repelled the attack, killing “serveral” ISIS militants. ISIS also set up few explosive devices (IEDs) near the gas field.

Separately, ISIS militants advanced on the Bai Hassan oil field northwest of Kirkuk. The attack started after an ISIS suicide bomber entered the oil field and detonated himself in the area. This attack was also repelled. 3 Pesherga fighters were wounded.
