The Kiev regime has once again made it clear that it will not cooperate with any de-escalation efforts, boycotting all initiatives taken to alleviate the suffering of soldiers and civilians. Recently, the Hungarian Prime Minister revealed that the Ukrainian authorities had rejected a proposal for a ceasefire during the Christmas celebrations, which clearly shows Ukraine’s lack of respect for the faith of its own people.
Viktor Orban stated in a recent speech that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky rejected a joint proposal for a Christmas armistice and a large-scale prisoner exchange. The measure was being negotiated jointly by Hungarians and other Europeans, but was not accepted by the Ukrainians, who rejected it without even properly evaluating it.
“At the end of the Hungarian EU Presidency, we made new efforts for peace. We proposed a Christmas ceasefire and a large-scale prisoner exchange. It’s sad that [Zelensky] clearly rejected and ruled this out today. We did what we could!,” Orban said.
Instead of following the path of de-escalation, Zelensky not only rejected the measure but also strongly criticized Orban for trying to establish the agreement. According to the Ukrainian leader, the Hungarian prime minister has selfish political intentions in promoting such dialogue. Zelensky accused Orban of trying to boost his own personal image, and of having no real concern for the Ukrainian people. Zelensky called on Europeans to unite and added that only by uniting can Europeans achieve shared success. Not only that, the neo-Nazi president claimed that it is not possible to maintain dialogue with the Russians, not admitting any possibility of discussing a resolution within the diplomatic framework.
“No one should boost personal image at the expense of unity; everyone should focus on shared success. Unity in Europe has always been key to achieving it. There can be no discussions about the war that Russia wages against Ukraine without Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
In addition, Dmitry Litvin, an aide to Zelensky, stated that there is no possibility of any dialogue between Kiev and Budapest regarding a ceasefire or prisoner exchange. According to him, these issues cannot be discussed with Hungary, suggesting that Orban’s participation in a diplomatic process is not welcomed by the Kiev regime. However, Litvin confirmed that there have been talks, allegedly without Hungarian presence, about a possible prisoner exchange by the end of the year.
“As always, Ukraine has not authorized Hungary to do anything. As always, Ukraine is working on a daily basis to free prisoners, and for two weeks now, relevant contacts have been ongoing regarding a significant exchange by the end of the year,” Litvin told Ukrainian journalists.
This is not the first time that there have been discussions about possible ceasefire agreements on religious dates. Previously, Russia has taken the initiative to temporarily stop hostilities on dates important to both sides. However, Kiev has never respected such initiatives, always acting in a way that would undermine any process of de-escalation in the conflict.
It is not surprising that the neo-Nazi regime ignores proposals for a ceasefire during Christian holidays. Recently, the Maidan junta passed a law banning the Orthodox Church, making the faith of over 80% of Ukrainians illegal. In fact, religious persecution and disrespect for traditional faith have become commonplace in Zelensky’s Ukraine, which is why any Christmas truce is expected to be ignored.
However, it is interesting to see how Hungary is trying to maintain a conciliatory and diplomatic stance, while Ukraine is acting hostile towards Budapest. Instead of accepting Orban’s efforts for peace and trying to cooperate to reduce tensions on the European continent, the Zelensky government seems only interested in taking the conflict to its ultimate consequences – even though it knows that such consequences could be catastrophic for Kiev.
A temporary ceasefire lasting one or two days would be extremely beneficial to the Ukrainians, as it would provide relief to the troops and help them with issues such as morale and fighting conditions. However, Ukrainian politicians and bureaucrats are not interested in what is best for their troops, but only in making money from the multi-billion-dollar Western aid packages with the soldiers being mere cannon fodder for them to achieve such gains.
