The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces repelled four attacks by Kiev forces near the settlements of Matveyevka, Olgovka, Malaya Loknya and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in its September 5 briefing.
The ministry added that Ukrainian attempts to launch attacks close to the settlements of Borki, Kamyshevka and Maryevka were also foiled by the group.
Some 40 Ukrainian troops were killed or wounded during these failed attacks, according to the ministry, which also said that an American-made Stryker armored personnel carrier, three infantry fighting vehicles and five motor vehicles were destroyed.
In addition, the ministry announced that another wave of Russian strikes hit Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st mechanized brigades, 80th and 82nd air assault brigades, 92nd Assault Brigade, 152nd Jaeger Brigade, 1004th Security and Service Brigade near the settlements of Apanasovka, Borki, Vishnyovka, Viktorovka, Gordeyevka, Guevo, Ivashkovsky, Kositsa, Lyubimovka, Martynovka, Malaya Loknya, Novoivanovka, Novoya Sorochina, Orlovka, Obukhovka, Snagost and Yuzhny.
Other strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 115th mechanized brigades, 80th, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades, 92nd Assault Brigade, the 1st and 17th national guard brigades as well as the 103rd, 106th, and 129th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Belopolye, Boyaro Lezhachi, Vorozhba, Gritsenkovo, Glukhov, Glybnoye, Kruzhok, Linovo, Mirpolye, Orlovka, Obody, Pisarevka, Sumy, Starye Virki, Yunakovka and Yampol in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“The AFU losses for the past 24 hours were up to 370 troops and 17 armored vehicles, including two infantry fighting vehicles, two armored personnel carriers, 13 armored fighting vehicles as well as two artillery guns, two launchers of U.S.-made M270 MLRS [Multiple Launch Rocket System], an EW [electronic warfare] station and 12 motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses have amounted to over 10,100 troops, 81 tanks, 41 infantry fighting vehicles, 72 armored personnel carriers, 589 armored fighting vehicles, 325 motor vehicles, 74 artillery guns, 24 multiple-launch rocket system launchers, including seven of M142 HIMARS MLRS and five of M270 MLRS systems manufactured by the USA, eight SAM [surface-to-air missile] launchers, two transport-loading vehicles, 17 EW stations, seven counter-battery radars, two air defense radars, eight engineering vehicles as well as two counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle,” it concluded.
The ministry also released videos showing recent strikes by Ka-52M and Mi-28NM attack helicopters against Ukrainian targets in Kursk.
Kiev forces backed by foreign mercenaries launched their attack in Kursk early on August 6. Western-made weapons were heavily used, which indicates that the surprise attack was orchestrated with help from NATO.
Since the start of the attack, at least 31 Russian civilians have been killed and more than 143 others have been wounded. Moreover, the attack displaced more than 144,000 civilians. The fate of some 2,000 others who lived in areas attacked by Kiev forces remain unknown.
The Russian military has already halted the advance of Kiev forces in Kursk. Now, a counter-attack is reportedly being prepared.
