The Russian military’s Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on several formations of Kiev forces in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on September 25.
In its daily briefing, the ministry said that Ukraine’s 21st, 22nd, 41st mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 95th Air Assault Brigade and 36th Marine Brigade as well as the 112th and 129th territorial defense brigades took losses close to the settlements of Lyubimovka, Daryino, Novy Put, Nikolayevo-Daryino and Plekhovo.
The Sever Group of Forces also repelled two counter-attacks by Kiev forces close to the settlement of Lyubimovka, according to the ministry.
“As a result, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] losses amounted to up to 15 troops killed and wounded, an armored fighting vehicle, and two motor vehicles. One AFU serviceman was taken prisoner,” the ministry said.
The ministry also announced that three Ukrainian attempts to break through the Russian border near the settlement of Novy Put were foiled by the group.
“The AFU losses amounted to up to 50 troops killed and wounded, three tanks, an infantry fighting vehicle, an armored fighting vehicle, and a motor vehicle,” it said.
In addition, the ministry said that Russian air and artillery strikes hit gatherings of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 95th air assault brigades and 36th Marine Brigade as well as the 103rd, 116th and 129th territorial defense brigades.
The targeted gatherings were near the settlements of Bogdanovka, Viktorovka, Goncharovka, Ivashkovsky, Kruglenkoye, Kositsa, Martynovka, Mikhaylovka, Malaya Loknya, Malaya Obukhovka, Medvezhye, Novy Put, Pravda, Pokrovskoye, Plekhovo, Rubanshchina and Tolsty Lug.
Other strikes targeted, according to the ministry, the reserves of the 21st, 22nd, 41st, 47th, and 115th mechanized brigades, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades and 1st National Guard Brigade as well as the 103rd, 106th, 107th and 129th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Belopolye, Belovody, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Bruski, Vladimirovka, Zhuravka, Komsomolsky, Manukhovka, Novaya Sloboda, Obody, Pavlovka, Rechki, Revyakino, Sosnovka, Stepanovka, Sumy, Shalygino and Khoten in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“Over the past 24 hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have suffered the following losses: over 300 troops, seven armored vehicles, three tanks, including two German-made Leopard tanks, an infantry fighting vehicle, and three armored fighting vehicles, two artillery guns, and six motor vehicles,” the ministry detailed in its briefing.
Furthermore, the ministry released several videos showing some of the strikes that hit Kiev forces in the Kursk direction.
Kiev forces launched a surprise attack into Kursk early last August. The Russian military halted the advance of Ukrainian formations within a few days and launched a counter-attack earlier this month. More than a dozen settlements have been already liberated.
According to the Russian MoD, since the start of the battle in Kursk Kiev forces have lost 17,000 troops, 130 tanks, 62 infantry fighting vehicles, 95 armored personnel carriers, 812 armored fighting vehicles, 514 motor vehicles, 138 artillery guns, 31 launchers, including eight American-made HIMARS and six MLRS systems, eight air defense systems, five transport-loading vehicles, 35 electronic warfare stations, eight counter-battery radars, two aerial radars, 18 engineering vehicles, including 11 counter obstacle vehicles, one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle and one armored recovery vehicle.
