Kiev forces are taking heavy losses while attempting to hold onto their positions in the Dobropillia salient and the nearby city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk direction, and despite that reports from October 10 indicate that the Russian military is still advancing.
In the Dobropillia salient, the Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces pushed Ukrainian troops out of Vladimirovka. This further secured Russian supply lines leading to Kucheriv Yar at the peak of the salient. It also put more pressure on the Ukrainian pocket splitting the salient from Shakhove to Toret’ske.
The group also developed its attack to the north of Kucheriv Yar, expanding its control in the southern outskirts of Zolotyi Kolodyaz.
Another push by Russian troops was reported a bit to the southwest, around Vilne, which threatened Ukrainian positions near Nove Shakhove, Ivanivka and Dorozhnye to the south. It’s worth noting here that the Ukrainian pocket between Nykanorivka and Zatyshok also appears to be nearing its end.
Despite losing much ground in the Dobropillia salient in recent days, Kiev forces remain capable of conducting limited counterattacks there.

To the south of the salient, battles continue in Pokrovsk with clear advantage to the Tsentr Group of Forces. Still, Ukraine seems determined to fight in the indefensible city to the last soldier.
A video that surfaced online recently shows some 25 destroyed Ukrainian military vehicles on one of the roads leading to the city. The vehicles were apparently targeted with drones and other weapons over the span of several days while attempting to bring in reinforcements or supplies.
It’s worth noting Russian troops are currently working to expand their control in the center of Pokrovsk and the southern part of the city.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s decision to prioritize the defense of the Dobropillia salient and Pokrovsk is causing more setbacks to its forces.
Further to the west, along the Yanchur River between Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye, Ukrainian defenses continue to collapse. The Vostok [East] Group of Forces expanded its control in the eastern part of Poltavka, and also advanced in the eastern part of Okhotnyche to the north, basically clearing most of the bank between the two settlements.
The Russian advance in this direction puts some serious pressure on Huliapole, a key stronghold of Kiev forces in Zaporozhye.

Overall, Ukraine seems determined to keep fighting in the Dobropillia salient and Pokrovsk, despite taking heavy losses and failing to stop the advance of the Russian military. Kiev will not likely abandon this strategy as it believes it is essential to its political stance and image in the media.
