Ukrainian soldiers and officers are rapidly losing their morale amid a series of defeats and mounting losses all caused by the disillusion of Kiev. On the other side, Russian troops, encouraged by their recent success, seem to be more motivated than ever.
The defeat in Kupyansk was especially harsh for Ukraine, and the upcoming defeat in Pokrovsk will be even harsher. That’s not to mention all the recent setbacks in Krasny Liman and Siversk, or the complete collapse taking shape all around Huliapole. In addition, hundreds of Ukrainian troops are getting killed or wounded every day in hopeless counterattacks.
Despite all of this, Kiev has so far maintained its maximalist stance, sabotaging any attempt to push for peace, even by its top backer, the United States.
Kiev seems to have complete disregard of the lives of its troops, who have begun to understand this. Recent videos from the special operation zone highlight much of this reality.
Ukrainian soldiers and officers are facing two main choices these days, either follow the order coming from Kiev and die, or surrender.
A great example of the first option was the suicidal helicopter landing operation near Pokrovsk from early November, when the Ukranian Military Intellgince basicaly throw its spicial forces into death to get some propaganda footage. While this particular incident gained much media attention, such things are happening on a daily basis.
Every day, Ukrainian troops are getting killed, mostly by Russian drones, while being sent by their command into parts of the front which can be described only as a “kill zone”.
A recent video from the direction of Orikhiv shows an entire unit being eliminated in the very same way. Another video from Pokrovsk shows more troops who basically find themselves immediately trapped by the Russian military upon arriving in Pokrovsk.
The Ukrainian command knows very well that these reinforcements have very little chance of arriving at their destination, and that even if they arrived they will end up killed within a few hours, and that even if they survived they will not change the situation at all. However, the goal is way more simple than that, it is just to keep the battle going, or more accurately to keep the image of a battle alive in the media.
Kypyansk is a good example of this. The is very much under the control of the Russian military, yet everyday hundreds of Ukrainian troops are set to their death in counterattacks around the city just so that the media could report that fighting is still ongoing there.
Ukrainian troops surviving the fighting these days, are just the ones who opt to surrender, if they could. Kiev has put great emphasis on eliminating any soldier or officer who attempts to surrender, even allocating some substantial resources for this.
Despite the risk, more and more troops are finding ways to surrender. Videos showing Ukrainian prisoners of war are posted on social networks daily.
Some are pleading for help from Russian drone operators, as seen in recent footage from somewhere in Huliapole. Others are simply hiding and waiting for their comrades to withdraw so that they could turn themselves in, as seen in a video from Pokrovsk that surfaced online in recent days.
Recent videos from the other side paint a completely different picture. Russian troops are motivated more than ever. This is of course unsurprising considering their recent success.
One video from an unspecified part of the special military operation zone shows a wounded Russian soldier ambushing two Ukrainian troops. Another video from Siversk shows two Russian soldiers attacking a cave where Ukrainian troops were hiding with rocket-propelled grenades from point blank, then blowing the whole area up.
Such bold feats are being reported across the front very much every single day. The morale of Russian troops is clearly on the rise.
The disillusion of Kiev has very much destroyed the morale of Ukrainian troops. Even three years into the fighting, Kiev is still putting political pluffs and propaganda stunts above military strategy. From the start, it was clear that some in the higher command in Ukraine will just follow the wishes, or more accurately of their backers in the West, specifically in the United Kingdom and the European Union, in the hope of keeping the money flowing in.
President Volodymyr Zelensky himself admitted at the start of the conflict some of his backers just want to drag the war on to deplete Russia, even if this meant great harm to Ukraine.
Despite understanding the situation, Kiev is still following the same policies from more than three years ago. May be the answer as to why lies in recent corruption scandals.
Zelensky and those around him appear to be lacking both the desire and the will to adopt a realistic strategy that seeks peace. In this context, the behaviour of Ukrainian soldiers and officers are very logical, they are just trying to survive a fight that has been already lost, and if their command is not willing to admit this, they will, collectively, very soon, because unlike many higherups, their families are actually living in Ukraine.

moscow must make vacuum clear that whatever washington says, the us will receive the lion share in any nuclear war that happens for any purpose or any intensity.
